Cork ETB School of Music Junior Orchestra

14_Picture 143The Cork ETB School of Music Junior Orchestra was founded in 2000 by Ciaran Deloughry as a gateway orchestra to the Cork ETB School of Music Youth Orchestra. Its aim is to train young musicians with no orchestral experience in the discipline and skills required to participate in an orchestra. The orchestra is part of the progressive development of music in the county organised by the County Cork School of Music under the aegis of the Cork ETB. Membership is open to young string, wind and percussion players who are attending lessons with the County Cork School of Music in centres throughout the county, or who are resident in the county. A concentrated rehearsal session is held every two to three weeks in Coláiste Choilm, Ballincollig. Since its inception the orchestra has given many performances around the county. In February 2009, the orchestra travelled to Dublin to perform in the National Concert Hall at the 14th Festival of Youth Orchestras. In March 2013 the orchestra performed at the Coole Music Festival in Galway. The tutors of the orchestra this year are Helen McGrath, Conor O’Connell and Yvonne McCarthy.
